In 1979, this aircraft was stolen, wearing this fake Congolese registration. The aircraft, flown by an unqualified pilot, took out the landing approach lights upon taking off from Bristol, doing substantial damage to the aircraft. The aircraft flew a circuitous route calling at Kuwait and Sharjah, before returning to Luxembourg. The aircraft took off again, headed - ostensibly - for Bombay, but developed engine trouble over Turkey. The plane somehow managed to land at Ankara, with only two engines running. The aircraft was scrapped there in 1980. |
