Towards 06.34 (AM), the F-BHBC, coming from Paris, must carry out by unfavourable weather conditions, a procedure of missed landing on track 01 of Dakar-Yoff airport. After having refused track 30 (equipped for the instrument landing) the captain, who still had petrol for more than two hours, decides to await an improvement of the weather conditions, and then shortly after 06.41 says his intention to carry out a new attempt on track 01.
After a passage at the vertical of the airport, in East-West direction, the plane is seen at 06.45 near N’Gor, to place itself down wind; it disappears in a heavy rain squall and after reporting “down wind” will not be heard any more from it towards 06.47.
Wreckage will be discovered 2400 m offshore the Mamelles lighthouse. Fatalities: Crew 8, Passengers 55 including 4 babies. |
