| I am currently reading "Southern Lights", which is John Rymill's account of his expedition to the Antarctic Peninsula in 1934 to 1937. There are several photographs in the book of their aircraft on floats, and accounts of survey and reconnaissance flights made by it, and how it was kept and maintained in such an extrene environment. There are many more of the expedition's photographs on the web site www.antarctic-web.ac.uk, some of which show the aircraft and some of those show the registration number. There is also a spectacular picture of the plane on skis at www.samemory.sa.gov.au. It might also be in some editions of the book (page 206??), but not in mine. |

| G-ACRU only survived a couple of years after the expedition to the Antarctic. It ended up crashed in New Guinea, registered VH-AAZ. See www.goldenyears.ukf.net/reg_VH-A.htm . |
