| This aircraft was built as C-53D Skytrooper 42-68704 and delivered to USAAF on 2/28/43, and assigned to North African theatre of operations, arriving in Oran, Algiers on 5/28/43. Returned to USA on 8/22/45, and the next month went to Reconstruction Finance Corp. Sold to Continental Airlines as NC61450. In 1954 it was re-registered as N66SA with Southern Airways. Interesting trivia was that by Oct. 1960 the plane had accumulated 34,744 hours since factory roll-out. Oct. 1967 became N6650 and sold to Carolina Aircraft Corp. Two more changes of hands and in 1974 it was registered N31MS with a lease to Marian Mosquito Control. It has changed hands several times since acquiring this registration. | |
