Very cool to see this old bird again! Our family owned 39F for a couple of years back around 1977. My dad, the late Bob Speed of Monroe, LA bought it as a restoration project. It was a real dog when he flew it home. Many were surprised he even flew it home. The rear window was badly sun-cracked and it wore badly peeling civilian paint at the time. When we sold it, it looked just as it does here in the photos. In fact I'd just about swear that's the paint we put on it. The markings look exactly as they did. Long live 39f! | |

I don't think the second shot on this page (the polished aluminum SNJ-5) is 3639F. We sold it around 1978 with brand new paint looking just as it does in the other photos here. |
