Originally built by Grumman in December 1943 as a US Navy model JRF-5 (USN BuNo. 37781 - according to my notes, it was actually 37780) its proper civilian msn or c/n should be B-33. If you reference FAA type certificate no. 654, the only valid ranges of serial numbers for Grumman G-21 series "Goose" aircraft are from 1001 to 1200 and B-1 to B-145 (and to be "proper" the "B" series serials must include the dash; anything else is probably a former military serial number which is technically not valid for civilian registration per AC 21-12B and AC 21-13. | |
