I've never been able to figure out from where "they" got "75-7661". That does not match any known or valid range of serials for a Grumman G-21 series "Goose" aircraft. It looks like either an invalid ex-military serial number or maybe one for a Boeing/Stearman model 75 (aka PT-13 or PT-17) Per another recent "correction" that I made regarding a different G-21 aircraft, the very LAST G-21 series aircraft mnaufactured by Grumman was in August 1945. I assume that someone (incorrectly) got the "1959" date off of its last or most recent certificate of airworthiness - which is NOT the same thing as "Year built." This particular aircraft was built in July 1942 as part of an order of 50 model JRF-6B for the British. |
