My father purchased this sweet bird in the summer of 1968 from Kee Bee Flying Service near Azle, Texas. He made good on a lifelong promise to me that I would someday have the chance to take flying lessons and earn my Private Pilot's License. That November, just two days after my 16th birthday, I soloed in the Champ for the first time in Bowie, Texas (Montague County). After many additional hours of flight in the Champ, I passed my check ride on exactly my 100 th hour logged in the air and had earned my Private License in my Junior year of high school. After graduation, Dad eventually sold the plane to a gentleman in Gainesville, Tx. Who completely recovered it, installed an electric starter (used to be hand prop) and redid the interior also. Some great memories of this great bird here! |
