This was an honest solar powered airplane. While it first flew under battery power during test flights. The English Channel flight was completed using solar power alone, sunlight to the solar cells and direct electrical current to the motors. If you turned away from the sun, the motors quit. The only batteries on the airplane were used to power the radio, transponder, and electric turn coordinator which I used for cloud flying.
