This aircraft was destroyed in a single pilot fatal crash At McGee Tyson Airport in Alcoa Tennessee on March 24 1980. The aircraft was owned by Aviation Unlimited Inc. and was piloted by Billy Johnson who rented the aircraft for a flight to Nashville Tn. Upon return from Nashville , after landing on runway 22L, for unknown reasons, decided to regain flight and go around. Not having sufficient airspeed, he bounced off the parallel taxiway and crashed into the maintenance hangar owned by Cherokee Aviation. The ensuing fire burned for 4 hours and destroyed the hangar and several aircraft inside, including a Beechcraft King Air owned by United American Bank. The crash was fatal to the pilot. This aircraft was only one year old and had less than 400 hours at the time of the crash. This accident was total pilot error and yet the subsequent lawsuits brought about by the survivors managed to destroy the business of Aviation Unlimited Inc. as the insurance on the aircraft was not sufficient to cover the huge property losses associated with the crash.
