This aircraft was used by Marconi-Elliot Avionic Systems as a test platform for navigation and communications equipment during the late 1960s and 1970s. The aircraft was usually flown from Southend Airport.

I worked at McAlpines in the 60's and on all of their fleet .During my time at Mc's, G-APWY Piaggio 166 crashed in the Ashdown Forest (no date I am afraid) and sufferd little damage but had to be stripped down and transported back to Luton It was repaired and flew soon afterwards
