N51VS crashed Saturday, 9 August 2008 about 3:15 pm while on final approach to Oxnard, CA OXR's runway 25, apparently due to engine failure. The aircraft flew over an open sports field, ripped through the top of a 40 foot tall baseball backstop and collided with a school bus barn in the 1100 block of West Second Street near the airport. The owner builder was taken to the intensive care unit of a local hospital suffering multiple injuries, in critical but stable condition. He was removed from the plane by nearby firefighters using the mechanized Jaws of Life. The plane, extensively damaged, took a decade to build.
