This American Airlines aircraft was on a scheduled flight from Kansas City and touched down some 200 yards short of the runway at Chicago O’Hare on February 9, 1998. The aircraft lost its undercarriage and one of the engines before coming to a halt resulting in considerable damage to the fuselage. Fortunately, there were no casualties amongst the passengers and crew. The aircraft was declared beyond repair and was written off.
