78E shown what it is very good at,off field landing.The chief is a very good and capable plane and I very much enjoyed (most of) the 2K hours I was fortunate to fly them.

N9078E @ Q59 - 78E on short final at the Fremont airport(Calif) flying over  broken cement (was never removed when the airport was built) which discouraged landing short! Over the years,several planes tried without much success like a C150 on 3-1-75. - by S B J

N9078E @ WVI - 78E on short final at the 20th annual Watsonville flyin.Watsonville on Memorial Day weekend kicked off the flyin season.The following weekend was always the Merced flyin & airshow.In the 70s & 80s they were both not to be missed. - by S B J

N9078E - 78E-  Made a quick stop at Eagleville airport (now closed ) in NE Calif. 78E flew over 10 hours this day. It was a long day! Easy to understand (headache around hour 8) how the term airknocker came about. - by S B J
