78E shown what it is very good at,off field landing.The chief is a very good and capable plane and I very much enjoyed (most of) the 2K hours I was fortunate to fly them.

N9078E - 78E & Champ 93E doing 360s (8K feet level) to gain altitude needed to get over the Sierras. Aeroncas are very good planes, but with 65hp, they are not eager climbers. There was not any lift from Mother Nature so the Aeroncas had to do it on their own. - by S B J

N9078E - 78E near Seattle,Wa. flying south on the way back home to Calif. after a year at Port Townsend,Wa. 78E always seemed to fly better and faster when heading home. - by S B J

N9078E @ Q59 - 78E on short final at the Fremont airport(Calif) flying over  broken cement (was never removed when the airport was built) which discouraged landing short! Over the years,several planes tried without much success like a C150 on 3-1-75. - by S B J
