N9078E, 1946 Aeronca 11AC Chief, C/N: 11AC-710
78E on short final at the Fremont airport(Calif) flying over broken cement (was never removed when the airport was built) which discouraged landing short! Over the years,several planes tried without much success like a C150 on 3-1-75.

Aircraft N9078E, 78E & Champ 93E doing 360s (8K feet level) to gain altitude needed to get over the Sierras. Aeroncas are very good planes, but with 65hp, they are not eager climbers. There was not any lift from Mother Nature so the Aeroncas had to do it on their own., photo by S B J
