Though built as a P-80C, this aircraft became a TV-2 advanced jet trainer for the U.S. Navy. Though this particualar aircraft lacked an arrestor hook, it was a P-80A in which Maj. Gen. Marion E. Carl made full-length aircraft carrier deck take-offs from the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, including the first-ever catapult launch of a jet aircraft in the world.
