In May 1932, Richard Shuttleworth took delivery of the Comper Swift and was so pleased with it's performance that he entered the aircraft in the Viceroy Challenge race - India and also purchased stock in Nick Comper's company and became its Director. G-ABWE was not to fly in the Viceroy as Shuttleworth stood the craft on it's nose after the Pobjoy engine quit in high winds on Jan. 1933 just days before the race. Shuttleworth purchased another Swift G-ABPY for the Viceroy. The 23 year old squire departed for India from Old Warden airfield.
