Based on the serial number and other records, this aircraft was never a HU-16A which was a USAF version. It was built for the US Navy as a model UF-1 (Bu. no. 142360) which after the 1962 DOD aircraft designation system reoriganization was identified as a HU-16C.

Its OEM (i.e. Grumman) serial or "construction" number is G-367 but its first owner (i.e. the US Navy) assigned it Bureau of Aeronautics serial (or "Bu.") number 142360
