On Sunday morning June 29, 1975 in Cardinal N34606 I had three passengers flying from Troutdale, Oregon to San Francisco to attend a baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants. At 9,500 MSL over the east slopes of Mt. Shasta in Northern California the Hobbs Oil Pressure switch on the front of the engine came apart. We lost our engine oil over the engine cowling, the windshield and most of the rest of the plane. Visibility was extremely limited through the windshield. However we were able to land, dead stick, on a 24 foot wide north/south logging road at about 3,500 MSL. With 36 feet of wing span the wing tips were damaged by brushing on tree branches and brush. The plane finally came to a stop at about a 45 degree angle to the road and partly off of the road. No fire. I have pictures of this. No one was injured.
Eventually the plane was trucked back to the Portland area for repairs.
